LOY HARRELL'S NEW BOOK ON COMTEMPORARY CARVERS

LOY HARRELL, HINESBURG, VERMONT, HAS JUST WRITTEN A GREAT NEW BOOK ON CONTEMPORARY DECOY CARVERS: DECOYS, SIXTY LIVING AND OUTSTANDING NORTH AMERICAN CARVERS. IN THE BOOK ARE PROFILED SOME OF TODAY'S BEST DECOY CARVERS ALONG WITH FULL-PAGE COLOR PICTURES OF THREE OF THE CARVER'S DECOYS. UNIQUELY, EACH CARVER SHOWS A DRAKE WOOD DUCK; HAVING ATTEMPTED SOME CARVING OF MY OWN, I CAN AGREE WITH LOY'S REASONING THAT THE "WOOD DUCK IS BY FAR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND THE GREATEST CHALLENGE FOR THE CARVER"...(YOU WILL NOTE THAT I AM NOT INCLUDED IN THE BOOK..FOR GOOD REASON!). BUT, IT IS GREAT TO SEE THE LIVING CARVERS OF TODAY RECOGNIZED FOR THEY ARE AS TALENTED AS THE MAKERS OF OLD AND THEIR WORK IS TRULY COLLECTIBLE AS TOMORROW'S "HUNTING CLASSICS". IT IS A PLEASURE AND A PRIVILEGE FOR ME TO KNOW MANY OF THESE CARVERS PERSONALLY AND TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE MY WEBSITE AS AN OUTLET FOR THE INTRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF THEIR WORK. I SEE MUCH INTEREST IN COLLECTING CONTEMPORARY DECOYS AND MANY NEW COLLECTORS ARE GETTING STARTED BY COLLECTING NEWER WORK. LOY'S NEW BOOK WILL SURELY ENCOURAGE THAT TREND AND HE DESERVES MUCH THANKS FOR TAKING ON THE TASK. I HAVE PICTURED A FEW OF MY OWN FAVORITES, SOME FROM MY COLLECTION, OTHERS FOR SALE ON THE SITE. ... Visit the Gallery
